David Swanson is an American author, activist, and journalist, prominently known for his work in the anti-war movement with ➡️ World Beyond War. He is the co-founder, executive director, and a board member of this global organisation dedicated to ending war and establishing just and sustainable peace.

He has authored several books which mostly focus on American foreign policy and their military interventions. ‘War Is A Lie’ and ‘When the World Outlawed War’ challenge the narratives that are often used to justify warfare. He is a vocal critic of their military-first approach, bloated Pentagon budget, and political interventions overseas.

David Swanson's contributions to the anti-war movement can be seen through his extensive writing, campaigning, speeches, blogs, and his relentless activism. His books are used as tools across the world by peace activists in the fight against the growing culture of militarism and war.

For his dedication to the peace movement, Swanson received several accolades including the U.S. Peace Prize awarded by the U.S. Peace Memorial Foundation in 2018, and the Real Nobel Peace Prize in 2024.

Swanson also works as the campaign coordinator for RootsAction, an initiative dedicated to galvanizing people committed to economic fairness, equal rights, civil liberties, environmental protection, and defunding endless wars. They organise people who are already active into a strong independent political force mobilising behind progressive policies such as Medicare For All, the Green New Deal, cancelling student debt, dramatically reducing the military budget, and raising the minimum wage.

Recent success saw his drafted resolution passed by several cities and by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. It urges Congress to move money from the military and divert it to social and environmental needs.

Swanson is an active supporter of ceasefire in Gaza, a ban on killer drones, divestment from the fossil fuel industry and weapons, and demilitarization of the police.

He is on the advisory boards of: Veterans for Peace, Assange Defence, Military Families Speak Out, and Peace in Ukraine Coalition. 

Swanson is also an Associate of the Transnational Foundation and is on the International Coordinating Committee of No to War – No to NATO.
