International Criminal Court & Israel

The International Criminal Court prosecutor's office has requested arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his defence chief, and also for three Hamas leaders for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity on May 20, 2024.

The Israeli government, Hamas and parts of the Western values community are outraged by this "hidious" act of the ICC. While the civilized world, the international law and the human rights community applaud saying this was long overdue. Note: These are not arrest warrants and constitute definitely not a final ruling. Until now, they also do not include accusations of genocide.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is an intergovernmental organization and international tribunal founded on the Rome Statute and seated in The Hague, Netherlands. It is the first and only permanent international court with jurisdiction to prosecute individuals for the international crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes and the crime of aggression. The ICC is distinct from the International Court of Justice, an organ of the United Nations that hears disputes between states.
