➡️ Jimmy Carter – President, Peacemaker, and Humanitarian (1924 - 2024)

Jimmy Carter was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. His most notable achievement during his presidency was brokering the Camp David Accords in 1978 between Israel and Egypt, which led to the first peace treaty between Israel and one of its Arab neighbours - a pinnacle of diplomatic success at the time in the Middle East.

Carter emphasised human rights as a central element of U.S. foreign policy, marking a shift from previous administrations. Domestically, Carter's administration struggled with high inflation and unemployment. His energy policies, however, were forward-thinking; he promoted both energy conservation and the development of renewable energy sources.

Carter's lasting legacy however is in his post-presidency humanitarian work, where he worked tirelessly towards peace, democracy, human rights, and the eradication of tropical diseases. After losing the 1980 presidential election to Ronald Reagan, Carter dedicated himself extensively to humanitarian efforts and global advocacy through The Carter Center, established in 1982. The Center has been instrumental in efforts to improve global health, monitor elections in countries with unstable democracies, and promote peace in various international conflicts.

Carter has received numerous awards for his humanitarian work, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. His inspiring legacy will live on through his work at the Carter Center, Habitat for Humanity, and his commitment to eradicating tropical illnesses such as Guinea worm disease and river blindness.
