Heat wave in Europe
High temperatures are wreaking havoc in Europe, with the UK recording its highest ever temperature, while thousands of people are suffering the consequences of forest fires in France, Greece, Spain and Portugal. Global temperatures have risen by 1°C since the industrial era, and we are experiencing the warmest period in 125,000 years, according to the IPCC. Heat waves pose a major threat to countries with typically mild climates, as they are unprepared to respond to rising temperatures.
